What Is Hydrogen Peroxide Mouthwash?

Why You Should Try Hydrogen Peroxide Mouthwash For Yourself

Free of the man-made chemicals and artificial sweeteners found in most mouth rinses, Hydrogen Peroxide Mouthwash is a safe alternative to popular brands of antiseptic mouthwashes.

Hydrogen Peroxide in low concentrations has many medical uses, and can work well as a mouthwash especially for small injuries within the mouth. Some people actually use the same 3% Hydrogen Peroxide solution sold for first aid use as a mouthwash.

The Hydrogen Peroxide sold in drug and grocery stores contains chemical stabilizers that makes it unsafe to use as a mouthwash. It should be considered, and is usually labeled as for EXTERNAL USE ONLY – Do Not Ingest!

H.P.M. from Heritage Products formulated from Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide with cinnamon, menthol and clove oil added for flavoring.

You still shouldn’t swallow any Hydrogen Peroxide, but why would you want to use something in your mouth that’s not food grade?

I’ve used Hydrogen Peroxide Mouthwash to cleanse cuts inside my mouth, and I’ve successfully fought off gum infections by soaking cotton swabs with the H.P.M. and applying it directly to the infected area. I’ve also found it useful for those rare occasions when I have a cold since rinsing with H.P.M. will kill cold germs in my mouth, and gargling will help reduce the buildup of infectious germs in my throat.

I firmly believe that my use of H.P.M. from the time one of my teeth broke, and the time until it was repaired with a root canal prevented me from getting a serious oral infection. Unfortunately, I also firmly believe that the use of conventional oral care products in my younger years lead me to that broken tooth and need for a root canal.

For regular daily use, I prefer to use Jason Healthy Mouth Natural Mouthwash, but I always have a bottle of H.P.M. on hand, I also use it for first aide.

What Is The Advantage Of Hydrogen Peroxide As A Mouthwash?

I enjoy H.P.M., the brand of Hydrogen Peroxide Mouthwash from Heritage Products which is a pleasantly flavored mixture of Hydrogen Peroxide that works as an antiseptic, foaming, oxygenating, rinse for your mouth and gums. You can feel it working the first time you use it.

Heritage bases their products on the basic formulas and principles from the readings of Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) who is considered by many to be the father of holistic medicine as a majority of his readings dealt with the treatment of illness. His remedies have proven to be so popular, that many are still used today.

H.P.M. does contain alcohol, but unlike certain popular brands that contain as much as 26%, H.P.M. contains 5% Grain Alcohol, which is why I only use it on a short term basis.

H.P.M. also does not contain Fluoride.

It amazes me what we are expected to use on a daily basis. From food and personal hygiene to household cleaners and lawn care, the products with dangerous and harmful ingredients are all over the place. Once you know what they are, and what they can do to you, you may find yourself looking for more natural products, too.

I’ve been looking into natural products as an alternative to what is normally available for most of the past 20 years. While I may not have been able to track down every article I’ve seen related to the less savory contents of mouthwash over the years, most of the following contains information that has been available for years mixed with newer articles that shed new light, or reinforce older research:

While mouthwashes are generally safe, some can cause side effects in patients who use them. For example, many over-the-counter mouthwashes contain high levels of alcohol that may range from 18 percent to 26 percent. Overuse of these rinses can create a burning sensation in the cheeks, teeth and gums. Additional side effects may appear as the result of use of certain types of prescription-strength mouthwashes.

Dr. William Marcus, believes that a study conducted by Battelle for the National Toxicology Program on the toxicology of fluoride shows that there were dose-related increases in bone cancer in male rats. Dr. Marcus also questions the removal by peer reviewers of cancers at other sites in the rats as well. Especially worrisome to Dr. Marcus is the fact that that levels of fluoride that caused the cancers in the rats were lower than those seen in humans who ingested lower amounts, but for a longer period. These levels are generated because fluoride is accumulated in the body and is not secreted.

– Hidden Danger in Your Drinking Water and Toothpaste

Parents with young children are often told that they need to be giving fluoridated water to their children to help combat tooth decay and promote the growth of strong, healthy teeth. Water fluoridation is the addition of a chemical to increase the concentration of fluoride ions in drinking water. The truth is, fluoride is a very toxic poison. Many water supplies in America are fluoridated with sodium fluoride which toxic byproduct from aluminum production. Sodium fluoride has also been used as rat poison for over 40 years. The evidence suggests that by fluoridating water, we are poisoning our children.

– Warnings and Dangers of Fluoride in Drinking Water

The Fluoride Action Network is an international coalition seeking to broaden public awareness about the toxicity of fluoride compounds and the health impacts of current fluoride exposures.

What the commercials don’t say is that fluoride was known in the early 1900s as an excellent rat poison. According to Robert Carleton, former scientist with the EPA, fluoride is more toxic than lead, and not quite as toxic as arsenic. It’s a waste product of many heavy industries-derived from the production of pesticides, fertilizers, aluminum, iron, steel, copper, lead, uranium, brick, cement and glass, among others….

….As it turns out, too much toothpaste may not be good for your health. Concerned that too many young children were swallowing toothpaste, the Food and Drug Administration, beginning in April 1997, required the following warning to appear on tubes of fluoridated toothpaste: “Use only a pea sized amount and supervise child’s brushing and rinsing (to minimize swallowing).” Parents also are warned to keep the toothpaste “out of the reach of children under 6,” and to “seek professional help or contact a poison center immediately” if more than is used for brushing is accidentally swallowed.

The FDA’s decision also was spurred by the growing number of cases of dental fluorosis-an unsightly and permanent discoloration of the teeth. The Wall Street Journal reports that 22 percent of American children now have the condition, which occurs in young children under six who have consumed too much fluoride.

As possible side effects are usually found only within the small print on foods containing sorbitol, consumers may be unaware of its laxative effects and fail to recognize a link with their gastrointestinal problems

– Chewing gum weight loss warning

The warning comes after doctors came across two patients who had chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain and dangerously excessive weight loss. After lengthy investigations which could not identify why the patients were losing so much weight and had chronic diarrhea and pains, a detailed analysis of eating habits put the problem down to eating too much chewing gum with sorbitol.

Experience the fresh taste of clean! Hydrogen Peroxide is equivalent to chlorine dioxide-based mouthwashes in its ability to convert sulfides (the germs which cause halitosis) into sulfates.

Hydrogen Peroxide: Medical Miracle
by: William Campbell Douglass II

Dr. Douglass reveals medical truths, and deceptions, often at risk of being labeled heretical. He is consumed by a passion for living a long healthy life, and wants his readers to share that passion. Their health and well-being comes first.

He is anti-dogmatic, and unwavering in his dedication to improve the quality of life of his readers. He has been called “the conscience of modern medicine,” a “medical maverick,” and has been voted “Doctor of the Year” by the National Health Federation.

His medical experiences are far reaching-from battling malaria in Central America – to fighting deadly epidemics at his own health clinic in Africa – to flying with U.S. Navy crews as a flight surgeon – to working for 10 years in emergency medicine in the United States.

This dedicated physician has repeatedly gone far beyond the call of duty in his work to spread the truth about alternative therapies. For a full year, he endured economic and physical hardship to work with physicians at the Pasteur Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia, where advanced research on photoluminescence was being conducted.

These learning experiences, not to mention his keen storytelling ability and wit, make Dr. Douglass’ newsletters (Daily Dose and Real Health) and all of his books uniquely interesting and fun to read.

He shares his no-frills, no-bull approach to health care, often amazing his readers by telling them to ignore many widely-hyped good-health practices (like staying away from red meat, avoiding coffee, and eating like a bird), and start living again by eating REAL food, taking some inexpensive supplements, and doing the pleasurable things that make life livable.

Readers of Dr. Douglass’ books get all this, plus they learn how to burn fat, prevent cancer, boost libido, and so much more. And, Dr. Douglass is not afraid to challenge the latest studies that come out, and share the real story with his readers. He has led a colorful, rebellious, and crusading life!

Epilepsy – Jody’s Journey:
An Inspiring True Story of Healing with the Edgar Cayce Remedies (Paperback)
Epilepsy – Jody’s Journey: An Inspiring True Story of Healing with the Edgar Cayce Remedies
by: Linda Caputi R.N.

This is a remarkable true story of a young woman’s seven-year struggle and final victory over epilepsy.

Diagnosed with epilepsy at sixteen, Jody faithfully tried the medications conventionally prescribed. But when all failed, she turned to an alternative approach – one offered by the late Edgar Cayce, the “Sleeping Prophet,” considered the father of holistic medicine.

Cayce explained that the original problem with idiopathic epilepsy was often not in the head but below it, within the abdomen and spine. His recommendations were directed at the cause, not the symptoms.

This helped Jody when nothing else did, even after the discovery and removal of a brain tumor.

This book also reviews and charts Cayce’s remedies allowing the reader to see which were recommended and for whom. Nine case studies of people who received “psychic” readings from Cayce, and were healed, are summarized and comprise the last part of the book.

Warning: Note that the Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide in HPM is less than 2%. You may see Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide available at concentrations as high as 35%.

It Is Not Safe To Use 35% Hydrogen Peroxide as Mouthwash at Full Strength!

If you do not understand how to dilute Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide to levels safe for internal usage, then you should stick to products which have already been formulated in levels that are safe to use.

Rescue Remedy Review

A Natural Stress Reliever

Rescue Remedy is a popular and effective blend of 5 different Bach Flower Essences designed to ease stress. Rescue Remedy is used world wide to treat emotional stress in emergency situations and is now available in different preparations apart from the original alcohol-based drops. Rescue Remedy is safe for all ages and is regulated and approved by the FDA in the United States.

Note: “Rescue Remedy” is a registered trademark of Nelson Bach USA, Ltd., Nelsonbach, and the Dr. Bach Foundation. The blend is available under different names from different companies. For the sake of familiarity and simplicity, this lens uses the word “Rescue Remedy” to include any and all 5-essence blends based on the original work of Dr. Edward Bach.

Rescue Remedy is a blend of five flower essences developed by Dr. Edward Bach in the 1930’s. It is safe and effective for temporary relief of emotional difficulties due to stress or anxiety. Rescue Remedy offers immediate and gentle relief and allows you to regain strength and emotional control.

How Safe Is Rescue Remedy?
The disclaimers and legal mumbo jumbo…….

Because of their long use in the United States, the U.S. Congress passed a law in 1938 declaring that homeopathic remedies are to be regulated by the FDA in the same manner as nonprescription, over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, which means that they can be purchased without a physician’s prescription. Bach Flower Essences are classified by the FDA as Homeopathic Remedies.

Remedies are required to meet certain legal standards for strength, quality, purity, and packaging. In 1988, the FDA required that all homeopathic remedies list the indications for their use (i.e., the medical problems to be treated) on the label. The FDA also requires the label to list ingredients, dilutions, and instructions for safe use.

The guidelines for homeopathic remedies are found in an official guide, the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States, which is authored by a nongovernmental, nonprofit organization of industry representatives and homeopathic experts. The Pharmacopoeia also includes provisions for testing new remedies and verifying their clinical effectiveness. Remedies on the market before 1962 have been accepted into the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States based on historical use, rather than scientific evidence from clinical trials.

The FDA has learned of a few reports of illness associated with the use of homeopathic remedies. However, the FDA reviewed these reports and decided that the remedies were not likely to be the cause, because of the high dilutions.

Here is some general information that has been reported about risks and side effects in homeopathy:

  • Homeopathic medicines in high dilutions, taken under the supervision of trained professionals, are considered safe and unlikely to cause severe adverse reactions.
  • Some patients report feeling worse for a brief period of time after starting homeopathic remedies (this does not apply to Flower Essences). Homeopaths interpret this as the body temporarily stimulating symptoms while it makes an effort to restore health.
  • Flower Essence remedies and some liquid homeopathic remedies can contain alcohol and are permitted to have higher levels of alcohol than conventional drugs for adults. This may be of concern to some consumers. However, no adverse effects from the alcohol levels have been reported either to the FDA or in the scientific literature.
  • Homeopathic remedies are not known to interfere with conventional drugs; however, if you are considering using homeopathic remedies, you should discuss this with your health care provider. If you have more than one provider, discuss it with each one.
  • As with all medicinal products, a person taking a homeopathic remedy is best advised to contact his health care provider if symptoms continue unimproved for more than 5 days.
  • Keep all remedies out of the reach of children.
  • Consult a health care provider before using the product if the user is a woman who is pregnant or nursing a baby.
  • The Flower Essence remedies are NOT a replacement for regular medical or homeopathic care. Please consult the appropriate professional for serious conditions.

Rescue Remedy is an excellent choice in emergency situations when it is important to maintain composure to deal with the situation at hand.

Dr. Edward Bach was a medical doctor, immunologist, bacteriologist, and homeopath. In the 1930’s he made the (the revolutionary) discovery that our physical health is intimately linked to our physical health. He tirelessly pursued his research in to discovering plant essences which possessed abilities to positively affect our mental state and emotions.

He developed Rescue Remedy as an “all purpose” emergency treatment for stressful situations. He blended five remedies which he felt would be of the most universal use. The original formula is still manufactured according to Dr. Bach’s specifications under the name “Rescue Remedy” by Nelsonbach.

  • Cherry Plum – for fear of losing control
  • Rock Rose – for terror, panic, and nightmares
  • Star of Bethlehem – for recovering from sudden shock
  • Impatiens – to help you slow down and relax
  • Clematis – to help you think clearly

Situations When You Need Rescue Remedy

  • Stress of exams or deadlines
  • A sudden fright or shock
  • As a calmative before and after surgery
  • Facing your fears, flying when you’re afraid of planes or going to the dentist when that causes anxiety
  • Upsetting situations

My Personal Use

I’ve used Flower Essence Remedies personally and with my children, my pets, and other family members for the past 8 years and with my homeopathic clients for 4 years. I have been heavily influenced Ian Watson’s work with using flower essences in tandem with homeopathy

I have received training in Flower Essence Therapy, Western Herbal Medicine, Reflexology, Health Counseling, Holistic Counseling, Nutritional Counseling, Reiki and Crystal Healing, and Eastern Meditation for health issues.

My philosophy is to offer the BEST care available to each client in a complementary way. I believe that everyone should be educated about all available options regarding their health and well-being and to have access to the best of all systems, whether they be traditional or modern, allopathic or holistic. Integrative medicine benefits everyone.

My Two Cents

I tend to prefer the dropper bottle to the spray. I’ve found that the sprayer can clog or break, but it is easier to use for some people.

Flower Essence Services also prepares the 38 original essences according to Dr. Bach’s instructions. “Healing Herbs” is a trademark of The Flower Essence Society. Their emergency relief remedy is called “Five Flower Formula”. Visit their website at for more information.

Several other companies create flower remedies specifically for stressful situations as well, however, only those remedies listed in the Homeopathic Pharmacopeia of the United States (as are ALL Bach Essences) are regulated by the FDA.

Animals Have Feelings Too!!!

Rescue Remedy Works for Pets

Pets have feelings too! Flower Essences are a safe and gentle way to help your companions in times of stress or with behavioral issues. They can be administered on a regular basis or as needed, either directly or placed in their drinking water. Animals generally respond faster and stronger to Flower Remedies than humans. The remedies can be beneficial in helping our friends be more at ease in uncomfortable or unfamiliar situations.

Many veterinarians use Rescue Remedy before examining them to help calm them, after anesthesia, and to help an animal recovering from collapse

New Pet Tip

When introducing a new pet into the home, add a couple of drops of Rescue Remedy to the water dish or bottle for a few days to help them relax and settle in.
